The third drink for the evening.
Yeah, we were really going all out, considering we had just arrived that morning from a direct flight SFO-AMS. No shame here though.
So while I was hunting around for some Scarlet Ibis rum in multiple bottle shops all over the SF Bay Area, my good friend Nathan Robinson ( I can call him my good friend now after meeting him at Smugglers Cove for a delightful time) directs to Bitters & Bottles in SF. Not only did I find that, but what a great shop. The guy who helped me was an excellent assistant. He answered my many questions. And put me onto the Ecalyptus Bitters, by Bitter Queens.
He told me it was great in a simple old fashioned.
So there you have it.
Third drink was an Old Fashioned from Death & Co
Which we also visited in Denver.
Their recipe called for Eagle Rare 10yo Bourbon, which I don’t have.
45ml Makers Mark
1 teaspoon Demerara syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 dash Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters
(This is where I used the Bitter Queens Eucalyptus Bitters as a sub)
Garnish 1 orange twist and 1 Lemon Twist
Stir all ingredients over ice, then strain over 1 large ice cube.
As I was experimenting with the eucalyptus, I just used a single dash. It was nice, but maybe ext time I will use 2 dashes. The clean, reminiscent of cough drops in a good way, of the eucalyptus was evident after the rest of the drink flowed slowly down your throat.
Definitely a good purchase.
