Next we had The Naked Ape
I saw the Noah Oran had posted this drink. Rob loves monkeys, everything about them, from the 3 wise ones,to the Planet of them. So this was a fitting return to mixin as well.
It’s a Martin Cate, Smuggler’s Cove recipe. So in honour of visiting that esteemed establishment as well.
It’s a Jamaican rum base, so expect strong funk and tropical, with the banana.
15ml fresh lemon juice
15ml Cinnamon syrup
15ml Giffard Banane du Brésil banana liqueur
45ml black blended rum- I used Gosling’s
15ml pot still lightly aged rum Overproof- Smith & Cross used
1 dash Angostura bitters
No garnish
Add all ingredients to your mix tin, fill with a cup and a half of crushed ice. Add 4-6 agitator cubes. Flash blend ( or shake hard if you don’t have one, like me).
Pour ungated into a suitable tiki mug or double old fashioned.
This drink initially tasted quite strong. But soon mellowed out with dilution into a pleasant reminder of being somewhere kinda tropical.
