It was last summer, when I had an abundance of cherries, so decided to put a few jars aside, drowned in brandy. I had kind of forgotten about them a bit, after initially trying them with some ice cream.
I saw this recipe a while back, and saved it. I wasn’t sure when I would get back to it again. But as it was saved, it popped out at me today, while I was scrolling through my saved recipes.
El Ultimo Guerrero Azteca or The Last Aztec Warrior
Recipe from Michael Smutny, on Craft Cocktail Club
A fitting tribute to The Last Word, the parent drink.
- 22.5ml Mezcal- I used Ilegal Joven
- 22.5ml Creme de Cacao White Liqueur
- 22.5ml Chartreuse Jaune (yellow)
- 22.5ml Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 brandied Cherry- to garnish
Combine all ingredients, except the garnish, in a shaker filled with ice. Shake until it’s well chilled and strain into a Nick & Nora, or a coupe, if you have that instead.
Garnish with the cherry, and serve.
So this evening, after getting quite wet today, while walking around this amazing city I get to call home, this will warm the cockles of my heart. I can listen to Neil Young singing Cortez, and mourn accordingly.
