The Smokin’ Prick
That’s what I’m going to call this.
I found some Prickly Pear fruits at a local greengrocer up on Spaarndamerstraat, a street close by me.
So thought ‘why not try some syrup with these 💡’
And then after a bit of tasting, and pfaffing about, experimenting, thought this combination worked great. I’m probably not the great inventor I think I am. I’m sure it’s been done before, of a close
approximation of similar.
The colour is beautiful. May be a seemingly girlie drink, but the mescal will add the hairs to its chest.
In my world, men don’t shy away from pink, it’s one of the colours of our universe.
So try it out.
45ml Mezcal-I used Ilegal for its smokiness
30ml Prickly Pear Syrup
30ml Fresh Lime Juice- I didn’t measure, it’s just the juice of a whole lime
30ml Ginger Liqueur- mine is homemade, but any would work, even some fresh ginger juice.
I put everything in the shaker with ice, shook the life into it, strained it over fresh ice in a Collins glass.

But it did cross my mind to use a slice of Prickly Pear. Or anything that strikes your fancy. Or none. I won’t be offended.
